Raise Your Voice is a hybrid program combining education and outreach to increase female perspectives in media
We train young women to become documentary filmmakers and video journalists and equip them with skills they need to artistically express their views on the society they live in. Our key aspects are gender related issues and the odds women have to face on a daily basis being a female in their environment. We explore and analyze the dynamics, effects and backgrounds of those circumstances through the medium of film.
Participants of the workshop will receive a rigorous training course in non-fictional film theory, cinematography, sound-recording, directing and storytelling in order to be able to produce strong and authentic statements and share them with their environment as well as enable them to start a career in the field.
Film-making is a team effort, which is why at “Raise Your Voice” we work collaboratively. Together we produce documentaries and use them to share stories and perspectives which are often hidden and neglected with the society we live in.
We want to create a space in which women can comfortably exchange views and find ways to express themselves through the medium of film. Together we ‘Raise our voice’ to create authentic productions that will challenge stereotypes, provoke thought and grow the presence of the female voice in the ongoing discussion about the women’s rights and empowerment in Egypt and abroad.
RYV is powered and hosted by the Digital Museum of Women (Zatek), an online and factual information system to research, advocate, document, exhibit women's history and current issues along with providing women with tools and knowledge to be empowered.
Zatek uses internet and digital technology such as photography, digital video & audio systems and graphics to document women's participation in the Egyptian daily life (Art, culture, economy, Social involvement). It uses this data to highlight, disseminate information and build networks to improve women's status in Egypt and Arab speaking countries.
